This Starter Pack includes:
Urbalive Worm Composter - choose either lime green or stone coloured. It consists of two trays - with the option to purchase extra if you have lots of waste. The bottom tray, with the solid base and tap, is the collector tray or sump. Worms work best in sheltered conditions so if possible the best places to site the kit would be in a garden shed, garage or greenhouse, or in a sheltered location near the kitchen door - if you wish to leave your Urbalive outside please cover with a tarpaulin or similar.
500g Composting Worms - these will transform food scraps into a vermicompost in each tray of the Urbalive so you will be able to harvest the worm casts tray by tray. This vermicompost is really rich and is ideal as a rich base for potting compost or as a fertiliser when planting out or as a top dressing for your pots and planters. You will also be able to collect the liquid 'worm tea' via the sump on the Urbalive. This liquid fertiliser contains a lot of rich nutrients and enzymes that will help your plants to grow and also help build plant resistance against pests.
One Bedding Block - when first starting off the Urbalive this block is used to fill the bottom working tray where you will place the worms. The worms will eat their way up, wriggling into the tray above when they detect the food scraps you have left there. By the time the top working tray is full most of the worms will have left the original bottom tray which will now be full of compost which you can harvest and return the empty tray to the top of the Urbalive to become the new top working tray.
2kg Lime Mix - this anti-acid mix is added to the Urbalive every couple of weeks. A handful will help to prevent acid build up and will help to prevent smells, flies and white worms. Because this mix contains grit it also aids the worm's digestion, whilst its drying properties make it good for wet or under-performing kits.
2kg Worm Treat - a natural accelerator for your Urbalive it is a special mixture of all the things that worms love best. Mix a handful into your composter every few weeks to give it a boost. Supplied in pellet form it will also soak up any excess moisture in your composter.
Moisture Mat - worms work best in dark, moist conditions and this moisture mat provides these conditions where they are most needed, on the surface of your composter. The mat encourages the worms to work in the freshest waste, thereby speeding up composting and reducing odours. This mat is made from 600g/sq.m hemp fibre matting.
