Green Cone Food Digester

Lower Black Mesh Basket which should be put into a hole in the ground. The reasons for burying the basket is that the soil will help to filter out smells and prevents access by flies. It also allows the natural micro-organisms and worms to migrate freely in and out of the basket. The basket also allows the rich soil conditioner created during the breakdown of the waste to seep into the surrounding soil.

Upper double-walled solar cone which is attached to the lower basket. This cone creates a heat trap of circulating air to facilitate the growth of beneficial micro-organisms and helps with the desirable aerobic digestion process. During the winter the cone also helps to insulate waste. A top opening lid on the cone lets you easily add your food waste.

A 5 Litre Kitchen Caddy is included helping you to collect the food waste in your kitchen and transfer it to the green cone.

Accelerator Powder with Application Jar used to enhance the breakdown of the waste added to the green cone. It should be used for the first couple of weeks after setting up the green cone to stimulate the friendly, helpful bacteria which breaks down the food waste. From then on the accelerator powder will only need to be added occasionally, for example during the colder months, to help speed up the process.

Locate the Green Cone Food Digester in an area of your garden where there is good drainage. This is important as the water the digester creates as it breaks down the materials added to it must be allowed to drain away freely, otherwise the system will stop working. The instructions supplied with the green cone will provide advice on siting onto free draining soil or what to do if the soil isn?t free draining, e.g. clay soils.

Place in a sunny spot in your garden, the sunnier the better. This is because sunlight is the energy source for the digestion process within the cone. During the colder months of the year the food digester will work, but more slowly than during the hotter months of the year.

You can add the following items into the green cone fish, read neat, poultry, bones, bread, pasta, fruit and vegetables (including peelings), cooked and spoiled food scraps, dairy products, crushed egg shells and tea bags, Very Little Maintenance Is Required as it produces so little waste residue that you should only need removing every few years (this can be dug into any suitable area of ground). The only thing to remember is that the top of the lower basket and the bottom lip of the outer green cone should be below ground level and always kept fully covered with soil.
