Bokashi Bin - made in the EU from 100% recycled plastic. The bin is available in two colours: Olive or White.
Dimensions:
Width 9½in / 24cm
Length 9½in / 24cm
Height 13½inc / 34cm
Capacity 10 litres / 2 gallons.
Outer Container – this smart outer container makes this Bokashi bin attractive enough to leave on a work surface in your kitchen, so it’s close to hand when it’s time to add waste.
Inner Container – with holes at the base, this inner container allows liquid to flow down whist catching the solid waste. This inner container is easily removed by pressing the two black notches on the sides of the outer layer. This is to prevent the drainage socket from being blocked.
Lid - vital as this is an anaerobic composting system. Always replace the lid after you have added new waste.
Draining Socket – positioned near the base of the bin this allows you to easily drain the liquid produced during the fermentation process. Simply tip the bin to one side, unscrew the tap and then tip the liquid into a container ready to be used.
Carrying Handle / Band – fitting to the buttons on the side of the container the handle can be fitted to just one button but when the bin is full and ready to be emptied the handle should be fitted to both buttons so the weight distributes evenly.
Bokashi Dosing Cups – use to add the bran to your bin after each new layer of waste is added. Add approx. 20ml of bran sprinkled evenly over the layer of waste.
Bokashi Pressers / Levellers – large, flat plates use every time you add waste to the bin to press down on the waste to remove as much air as possible and to begin the fermentation process.
One x 2kg Bokashi Active Bran - every time you add waste into your bokashi bin you should sprinkle a handful of the bran on top. It is a dry mixture of bran and molasses, that has been inoculated with beneficial micro-organisms (a carefully selected mix of microscopic bacteria, yeasts and fungi) that work together to speed up composting, suppressing pathogens, preventing putrefaction and eliminating foul odours. 1kg of bran when used with one bin should be sufficient for 4-5 months of composting.
What you can add to your Bokashi Bin - fruit and vegetable scraps, prepared food, dairy products, raw or cooked meat, small bones, fish, eggs, bread, coffee grounds, tea bags, withered flowers and small amounts of tissue paper.
What you can do once the Bokashi process is complete - you can either add the waste to a conventional compost bin or dig into an area in your garden where you have no plants (because the waste from the bokashi bin is acidic you should leave 2 weeks for the soil pH to neutralise before putting any plants into this ground).
